HSY Autoparts Expands into New Zealand with Acquisition of SPEED NZ Limited

Australian automotive aftermarket leader HSY Autoparts has announced its expansion into the New Zealand market through the majority acquisition of privately held SPEED NZ Limited. This strategic move strengthens HSY's presence in the Asia-Pacific region and aims to meet the growing demand for European automotive parts in New Zealand.

SPEED NZ, established over 17 years ago, is recognized as New Zealand's largest independent European specialist parts supplier. The company is known for its commitment to quality and customer satisfaction, offering a wide range of genuine, original, and quality aftermarket parts and accessories.

Peter Tippner, General Manager of HSY Autoparts, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition: "New Zealand represents an exciting growth opportunity for HSY Autoparts. By acquiring a majority stake in SPEED NZ, we are not only strengthening our market position but also enhancing our ability to provide top-tier automotive products and services to customers across New Zealand."

The integration of HSY's extensive inventory, technical knowledge, and customer support with SPEED NZ's local expertise is expected to enhance product offerings, service capabilities, and customer reach throughout New Zealand. This aligns with HSY's long-term growth strategy, focusing on expanding into key markets, fostering innovation, and delivering exceptional value to customers.

HSY Autoparts, headquartered in Melbourne, carries approximately 10,000 line items of OEM, genuine, and aftermarket spare parts. The company operates branches and warehouse facilities across Australia, including in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide, and Perth.

With this acquisition, HSY Autoparts is poised to support automotive workshops in New Zealand with the same dedication and service that has established its reputation in Australia. The company looks forward to bringing its industry-leading support, premium European brands, and workshop solutions to businesses across New Zealand.

Australia’s new car market continues its upward trajectory, with a growing influx of automotive brands set to enter the local landscape over the next 12 months. Leading this surge is a clear industry-wide shift towards electrification, as a wave of electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid options are poised to hit showrooms across the country. At the forefront of this momentum is a notable development from Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. In a bold move to strengthen its EV credentials, Mitsubishi has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, a Taiwanese electric vehicle manufacturer backed by tech giant Foxconn. This strategic alliance aims to co-develop and launch a new electric vehicle model tailored specifically for the New Zealand and Australian markets

We’d like to come clean… The “Scania Ute” is, unfortunately, not a real product—yet! This concept was part of an April Fool’s Day joke. While we know the idea of a heavy-duty Scania truck combined with a ute bed and powered by our iconic V8 engine might sound like a dream come true, it was all in good fun. We apologise if this caused any confusion or got your hopes (or engines) running a little too fast. Thanks for being such great sports, and who knows? Maybe one day…
