Owning an electric vehicle (EV) is different from owning a conventional petrol or diesel vehicle. While EVs require less routine maintenance, adopting good charging habits and efficient driving techniques can help maximise battery life, improve driving range and reduce running costs.

Charge to 80–90% for Everyday Driving
For most EVs, regularly charging the battery to 80–90% is recommended for daily use, as it can help reduce long-term battery degradation. Reserve a full 100% charge for longer journeys when maximum range is required. (Some vehicles fitted with Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries, such as certain Tesla models, recommend regular charging to 100%. Always follow your manufacturer's advice.)

Before travelling, use charging network apps such as PlugShare or Chargefox to locate charging stations, confirm connector compatibility and check charger availability.
Be Considerate at Public Chargers
Once your charging session is complete, move your vehicle promptly so other EV drivers can access the charger. Good charging etiquette helps reduce waiting times and improves the experience for everyone.
Avoid Charging Beyond What's Needed
On busy charging networks, consider charging only to the level needed to reach your next destination. Charging slows considerably above 80%, meaning you may spend significantly longer occupying the charger for relatively little additional range.
