AUSMASA 2024 Workforce Plan

AUSMASA is proud to launch our latest Workforce Plan for 2024 – Moving Ahead Together. The latest iteration incorporates input from industry, unions, governments, RTOs, and workforce stakeholders.

Estimating that the mining and automotive industries will grow by over 72,000 workers in the coming decade, the 2024 Workforce Plan identified the need to address workforce and skills shortages as a key priority. Efforts to tackle these shortages include initiatives aimed at changing Generation Z's perceptions of the mining industry and further research to explore youth perceptions of automotive careers.

Additional priorities outlined for both industries in the 2024 Workforce plan include the transition towards net zero electrification, digitisation, and automation. Challenges lie ahead, particularly in skills development and establishing the necessary training infrastructure.

AUSMASA CEO Dr Gavin Lind said as a Jobs and Skills Council (JSC), AUSMASA looked forward to continuing to work with education, industry, and workforce stakeholders to address critical and emerging issues affecting the mining and automotive industries.

We’d like to come clean… The “Scania Ute” is, unfortunately, not a real product—yet! This concept was part of an April Fool’s Day joke. While we know the idea of a heavy-duty Scania truck combined with a ute bed and powered by our iconic V8 engine might sound like a dream come true, it was all in good fun. We apologise if this caused any confusion or got your hopes (or engines) running a little too fast. Thanks for being such great sports, and who knows? Maybe one day…
