A Farewell to Ian Lovelace

LOVELACE, Ian Charles

Passed away peacefully 29th May 2025.

Late of Mona Vale | Aged 82 years

Dearly loved husband of Ann (dec). Cherished father and father-in-law of Leanne and Colin, Belinda and Greg. Loving Poppa of Daniel, Aiden, Cameron, Rachael and Alyssa. Loving brother of Robert and Helen.

Ian’s Dedication to the IAME and the Motor Industry

Ian was a proud and dedicated Member of the IAME for over 50 years — a milestone he valued deeply. Even after his retirement, Ian continued to serve the Institute and the industry he loved. He generously volunteered his time to supervise and grade membership examinations and assisted with applications to Fair Trading when members applied for Tradesman Certificates.

As the NSW National Chief State Examiner, Ian took his responsibilities seriously. He had a genuine passion for connecting with applicants, always taking the time to hear their stories, career journeys, and skills. His weekly visits to the Institute were a highlight for him — not just to lend his expertise, but to remain engaged in the motor industry that meant so much to him.

Ian’s ongoing commitment, warmth, and professionalism left a lasting impact on many, and his contribution will be remembered with great respect and appreciation.

Ian was a much-loved member of the IAME team who will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

AI is now core to the latest generation of ADAS: deep-learning perception stacks, on-board real-time inference and sensor fusion enable crash-avoidance features that demonstrably reduce collision rates (notably AEB/FCW), while vehicle dynamics control is evolving from rule-based ESC to predictive, AI-assisted torque-vectoring and integrated stability management. Modern systems combine camera/radar (and in some programs lidar, mapping and environmental sensing) to detect, predict and act within fractions of a second; this increases safety but also creates new service obligations — precise sensor calibration, validated software/firmware management, authenticated OTA updates and documented post-repair procedures.

For workshops and maintenance operations that take a conservative, risk-averse approach to chemical use, changes to a product’s chemical formulation matter far more than marketing claims. LOCTITE’s latest generation of threadlockers represents a quiet but significant shift in this regard: a reformulation driven not just by performance outcomes, but by chemical risk reduction and sustainability considerations .
